Professional Development

The presentations on this site are intended to be three-hour sessions, but can be facilitated over multiple sessions at the district level, school level or in grade level PLC meetings. Each professional development session includes notes for the facilitators and any handouts that are needed. Note:  Four modules build on understanding and orchestrating high demand tasks. These modules should be delivered to teachers in the following order: Selecting and Implementing Mathematical Tasks, Analyzing and Sequencing Tasks, Anticipating Students’ Mathematical ThinkingOrchestrating Productive Mathematical Discussions: Analyzing, Selecting, and Sequencing Student Work.. Each of these four modules have specific grade level examples tailored to each grade so a different module can be facilitated with different grade levels or a district could choose tone grade level module to deliver to the entire school and have teachers access the example for their grade level module as a follow-up to the session. The Formative Assessment module can follow the sequence of four or be a stand alone module, though it also has modules tailored for each grade.

PLC Discussion Story Starters are included in the Additional Resources section. These discussions include classroom vignettes that are intended to promote discussion around important mathematical topics that teachers may encounter.
